Russell Smith
Dr. Russell William Smith is a passionate and accomplished prosthodontist dedicated to restoring oral function and esthetics in patients with complex dental and maxillofacial conditions. Currently a fellow in the Advanced Education Program in Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Oral Oncology at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, Dr. Smith brings a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to patient care, developed through rigorous training and clinical experience.
Dr. Smith earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he held multiple leadership positions and was actively involved in teaching and community service. He later completed a residency in Prosthodontics at LSU Health School of Dentistry, where he also earned a Master of Science in Dentistry and served as Chief Resident. His clinical interests include full-arch implant rehabilitation, occlusal philosophy, and the application of digital technologies in maxillofacial prosthetics.
With a foundation in biomedical sciences and a prior career in healthcare business development, Dr. Smith integrates evidence-based clinical practice with a strong commitment to education and patient-centered care. He has presented on topics ranging from vertical dimension of occlusion to advanced reconstructive techniques and has contributed to research in finite-element analysis and 3D printing applications in dentistry.
Dr. Smith is a recipient of the Southeastern Academy of Prosthodontics Educational Scholarship and has served as a faculty mentor and teaching assistant throughout his academic journey. His nonprofit work with veterans, particularly through “Service with a Smile,” reflects his dedication to underserved communities and public health.
As he continues to develop as a clinician, researcher, and educator, Dr. Smith remains focused on advancing the field of prosthodontics and maxillofacial rehabilitation through collaborative, innovative, and compassionate care.
