AAMP Statement on Fellowship Application Process
In alignment with the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics' mission to champion patient care through education, member success, and the advancement of our specialty, the AAMP strongly encourages a fair, transparent, and equitable process for applicants seeking fellowship training in Maxillofacial Prosthetics.
To ensure that all applicants have the opportunity to make informed decisions about their future training and professional development, the AAMP highly recommends that fellowship programs adopt a standardized interview and offer timeline. Specifically, the Academy suggests that:
- All applicants be granted the opportunity to interview with their programs of interest prior to making any binding decisions, and
- Fellowship programs collectively adhere to a common offer date after all program interviews are complete before extending positions.
This approach allows candidates to thoroughly explore training opportunities, evaluate program fit, and ultimately choose a path that best aligns with their goals and values. Such transparency supports the Academy's vision to inspire the advancement of maxillofacial prosthetics and will strengthen the specialty by promoting mutual understanding between applicants and training programs.
While this guideline is not mandatory, it reflects the AAMP’s commitment to fostering a collegial and supportive environment for future maxillofacial prosthodontists. Encouraging best practices in the recruitment and training process ultimately serves to elevate the field, support our members, and—most importantly—enhance the care we provide to patients.
We thank all programs for their ongoing dedication to excellence and for their role in shaping the next generation of leaders in maxillofacial prosthetics.
