Biography

Dr. Sumita is a board member of the Japan Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and the Japanese Cleft Palate Association, as well as a council member of the Japan Prosthodontics Society. She is contributing to the field of maxillofacial prosthetics with the aim of helping patients locally and around the world by developing silicone material for facial prostheses and working to improve the health insurance system and dental education in Japan. Dr. Sumita is the director of the Maxillofacial Prosthetic Clinic at the Dental Hospital of Faculty of Dentistry, Tokyo Medical and Dental University. She is a specialist in maxillofacial prosthetics and works with a skilled team of oral surgeons, orthodontists, otorhinolaryngologists, plastic surgeons, speech therapists, and others. The two main prosthetic treatments she provides are the prosthetic treatment for defects such as maxillectomy, glossectomy, and cleft lip and palate, and fabrication of treatment appliances for radiotherapy and speech therapy. Her research interests include improving rehabilitation for speech disorders, dysphagia, and aesthetics.
